Echoes from past

Refugio de Peregrinos Itzandeguia at Roncesvalles. Part of the Real Colegiata, built in early 13th century. There was an hospice even earlier in Roncesvalles, because of the heavy flow of pilgrims. The first recorded pilgrim who came to Santiago de Compostela from north of Pyrennees was abbot Godescale from the monastery of Le Puy in 950 AD. Le Puy still remains one of the main starting points of the Camino besides St. Jean Pied de Port and Roncesvalles.
